Before a food is labeled organic, it must meet government regulations. The organic standards are set by The Organic Foods Protection Act of 1990. Organic farmers are not allowed to enhance meat, poultry, eggs or dairy products with growth hormones or inject them with antibiotics.
Buying organic produce limits your exposure to the residue from pesticides. Organic fruits and vegetables are not treated with preservatives or waxes. They are much fresher than the conventional produce. The shape and size may not be as uniform as the conventional fruit but the nutrient level and taste is higher and preferred over the conventional fruits and vegetables.
A diet of organic foods will give you healthier skin, stronger hair and nails as well as a well-balanced body. Other benefits from organic foods include reducing the chances of becoming obese and developing illnesses such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. Pregnant mothers have the additional assurance that the chances of birth defects are reduced when organic foods are eaten.
