SuperMarket Coop Update #9--9/8/00
**********

Project Update:
Well, I have returned from California full of new ideas for the project! Gail was a fantastic hostess, sharing the history of her beautiful valley and her work. I got some great images and hope to create several pages with images and more personal information about the Wild Rice cooperative.

The Intermountain Fair, in McArthur, California was a great experience. Gail is a born salesperson and we both met enthusiastic response whenever we shared our goals and information.

Finally, we made some pretty radical changes to the Fall River Product pricing. As a small project (right now), with multiple supplier sites, we just don't have the shipping options available to larger, warehoused companies. As we expand, I feel confident we can secure a shipping contract that enables us to bring shipping prices down.

Presently, we are using the United States Postal Service Priority Mail rates. This makes it challenging to sell one bag of wild rice chips or one jar of jam, but doesn't really affect the prices for four or eight.

With the help of Fall River staff, Hiram and Kathy, as well as Gail, we adjusted the prices of the products and will continue to offer "free" shipping. I am hoping to make a trip to Maine this month to work through the formulas with Father Randy and HOME. I am very curious to get your reactions to this, so please let me know at rbond@ruralco.org

Product of the Week:
A case of Fall River Wild Rice chips!!! That's right, 15 bags of chips for $28.95. Your choice of garlic, plain or a combination of both.

Next Week:
With Father Randy's help, we will be including the option to buy sets of napkins and towels and a few more homemade craft items like socks.

In cooperation,
Rebecca Bond
SuperMarket Project Manager
