SuperMarket Update #5--8/11/00
*************

Hello to everyone from our beautiful and wild intermountain valley of northeastern California, the home of Fall River Wild Rice. Harvest has begun and it will be busy, busy for the next 6 or 7 weeks. May the combine NOT get stuck in the mud, May the equipment NOT break, May the weather NOT send us hail and may the fuel prices go DOWN!

Project Update
Rebecca asked me to write this weeks update because she is not yet back from her vacation. We are looking forward to her return on Monday as the ideas and excitement are flowing. Be sure to check out http://www.supermarketcoop.com for improvements. We are almost at the end of our test phase. If you know anyone who may be interested in our products, let them know we are offering free shipping during this phase and be sure to check out our site regularly.

Product of the Week
Fall River Wild Rice Chips - Not only are the chips absolutely delicious and healthy, they use the part of our production that is harder to sell, the broken and little grains. After much brainstorming in our co-op we decided to grind them up into flour and make chips! They really taste good and are nutritious too! If you have not yet tried them do! You are in for a treat!

Did you know that cooked Fall River Wild Rice can be blended with other rices or used as an ingredient in casseroles, desserts, soups, salads or breads. Use in your favorite recipes! I like to add cooked wild rice to my pancake batter, as it adds fiber and protein. Put in as little or as much as you want. Pancakes or waffles with wild rice are even better with *** H.O.M.E. MAPLE SYRUP ***

I think I can speak for all the cooperatives in the Supermarket project. Thank you Rural Coalition for all we have learned!

In cooperation,
Gail Lennon
a farmer and an advocate for broke farmers everywhere!
