SuperMarket Update #44--7/12/01
**************
There is lots of big news this month, so I will just get right
to it. The
SuperMarket Coop site is well into celebrating its first year.
Not all
dotcommers can even say that! Congratulations to all the coops,
farmers and
supporters that have made that happen!
The July boxes from the Mississippi
Association of Cooperatives have gone
out to the 50 subscribers and we have reworked the SuperMarket
homepage to
fit the products and people featured in this month's box. Check
it out!

In celebration of our first
anniversary and the fabulous Mississippi box, we
are offering five pounds of Mississippi Sweet Potatoes in a basket,
delivered to your door. This is our first retail, fresh product
and a
development we hope will continue to grow.

In addition to Sweet Potatoes
from Mississippi, we will be posting the folk
art of Charles Smith, a self-taught Mississippian with incredible
vision.
His prints should be up within the week.
Finally, I have some personal
news. Following the Mexico trip next week, I
will be leaving the Rural Coalition. It has been a wonderful
2+ years and
the experience of building and expanding the SuperMarket Project
has been
incredibly fulfilling. And the evidence of what can be built
with
cooperation and the vision of a better food system for consumers
and
producers has kept me on the edge of my seat and excited about
the project's
future.
To all of you who have been
so supportive and generous with your feedback,
thank you, we could not have achieved what we have without you.
I hope you
will continue to work with Liz Clasen, as much of the project
work will be
left in her very capable hands.
In cooperation,
Rebecca Bond
