SuperMarket Update #42--6/25/01
**************
Rebecca is in Colorado at a conference this week and asked me
to write the
e-update. I am working with the SuperMarket project through
the Mickey
Leland-Bill Emerson Hunger Fellowship, sponsored by the Congressional
Hunger
Center (http://www.hungercenter.org).
"What does the SuperMarket project
have to do with ending hunger?," you might ask. I firmly
believe the
SuperMarket project is part of our work towards a more equitable
and
sustainable food system, which provides for everyone. So as
a member of the
anti-hunger movement, I thank you for your support of the SuperMarket
Project.
We are beginning to reap the
benefits of the http://www.SuperMarketcoop.com
site changes. Sales are steady and we have already sold our
first bags of
Mexican coffee! We are eagerly anticipating the expansion of
the project as
we begin a major recruitment in Mexico and the U.S.. Please
let us know of
any groups you think would be interested in joining the website.
We have been working with
a packaging company to develop the most efficient
and effective way to ship our small farm produce throughout the
country,
specifically in conjunction with Small Farm Connection (a.k.a.
Virtual CSA).
We experimenting with reusable ice packs and styrofoam, inspired
by the
excellent shipping procedures of Family Farm Defender's Cheese.
(As one
customer stated when he received his first shipment of cheese,
"It was like
Fort Knox." ) With the shipping know-how of Family Farm
Defenders and some
luck, you might begin to see fresh produce for sale on our website.
Our
concern is always about getting quality products to the customer,
while
allowing our hard working farmers a fair profit.
Rebecca and I are always excited
to hear feedback. If you ever have any
suggestions, please feel free to call (202) 628-7160 or email
at
lclasen@ruralco.org.
Thank you again for your support.
In gratitude,
