January 26, 2001--SuperMarket Coop e-Update #27
**********

Well it is hard to believe we are nearing the end of January, 2001! Spring will be upon us any time now. :) But the cold weather has not made anyone lethargic. There has been some real forward movement on the strategic process behind the SuperMarket Project.

Monday morning, the strategic design team for the SuperMarket Project will be having a multi-state conference call. Representatives on the call come from participating cooperatives and the RC Board. We will be focusing on the development of the Virtual CSA (community supported agriculture) concept, as well as continuing to move on our long range business plan.

Much of that information comes to us from a producer survey coordinated before the holidays. In addition to understanding exactly what product we have out there, we are also surveying the level of interest in a sustainable business structure that will succeed the Rural Coalition as caretaker of the project.

A quick thanks to those of you who got back to me with your impressions of the Virtual CSA. I understand a year long commitment might be too long and the investment of $350 to $400 in one lump might be too much for some. Although we would begin with my personal favorite, a pilot phase, which tends to begin slowly and with the lightest administrative investment, I will try to investigate quarterly payment options to include those of us on a tighter budget and those who prefer shorter commitments.

The question then becomes, would you be willing to pay a bit more for that service? And would you allow us to automatically bill your card each quarter, or would you prefer invoices? let me know at rbond@ruralco.org

Jamil continued to put up the new Mississippi products this week. All one of a kind, they do some really fun work and the latest aprons have a definite retro feel. Click here to take a look.

And in an experiment to see if the products appear more clearly if modeled, I allowed myself to be the guinea pig. Check out this link. It may be the only time you see me associated with a cooking accessory.

Thanks again for all your suggestions as we continue to work for a more just food system,

In cooperation,
Rebecca Bond
SuperMarket Project Manager
