SuperMarket Coop Update #14--10/12/00
**********
Project Update: I am off
tomorrow for the great states of Washington and Oregon! It's
time to start examining the tremendous potential of the SuperMarket
Project.
I will be meeting with the
folks from Pike Place Market, a public market in downtown Seattle
with over a ninety year history and nine million visitors a year!
http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/
This year we were thrilled when the organization behind the
market joined the Rural Coalition. Since then, our
visions for the SuperMarket Project and other Rural Coalition
projects have grown and we hope to create some real opportunities
for collaboration with Pike Place.
Later next week, I will head
to Portland to attend a conference on Eco-labels and Eco-brands,
sponsored by the Food Alliance, an organization with its own
label, endorsing farmers for following environmentally sound
farming practices. http://www.thefoodalliance.org/
This is part of an investigation into labeling practices,
challenges and successes, as the Rural Coalition, or SuperMarket
Project may potentially have its own label or brand, or adopt
an existing label.
Jamil has officially been
thrown into things and even came back for his second week! We
also had visits by Daisy Garrett and Ben Burkett of the Mississippi
Association of Cooperatives and Chilo Villarreal, Board member
and representative of COSYDDHAC in Chihuahua, Mexico. Everyone
brought sample crafts for the Web!
You will find placemats from
Mississippi on the Web and next week, should see pine baskets
of Mexico. You can check out the placemats at
