- SuperMarket Coop Update #12--9/29/00

Project Update: Well,
we are officially three months into our test phase. It amazes
me how much we have learned and how we have grown in those short
months. Your support and comments have been crucial to that growth.
It's time to give ourselves a pat on the back for the vision
we are building!
Biggest news this week? Jamil
Shariff will be joining the SuperMarket Team on Monday as a half-time,
technology assistant. His time will be used to increase and improve
the information on our Web sites; www.ruralco.org
and www.supermarketcoop.com,
as well as assist in the overall development of the
SuperMarket Project and other Rural Coalition technology needs.
With the addition of staff
to the project, we expect to expand our research of e-commerce
and cause-related marketing, as well as concentrate on additional
cooperatives and products.
As I will begin traveling
in the next month, sharing our concepts and visions at conferences
and in workshops, Jamil will further support the team involved
in developing this project, by maintaining an in-office contact.
In addition to Rural Coalition
office changes, other members of the SuperMarket Team continue
to volunteer their time and energy for our success. Members of
the project Design Team met by conference call on Thursday to
discuss the greater SuperMarket vision; cooperative marketing
through an online network and database of small growers and their
crops, crafts and other finished products.
The Design Team, made up of
representatives from SuperMarket member cooperatives and Rural
Coalition staff, brainstormed upcoming opportunities for sharing
our project progress. The spirit of commitment was fantastic
and members of the team will be attending conferences and workshops
focused
on community food security, marketing, sustainable agriculture,
and many others. Time to spread the word, folks!
